  Coding for Xbox is very similar to developers who have made games for PCs. And Microsoft is known for developer support. Almost all the tools they use to make PC games are used to code for the 360. There is a reason why the Xbox prototype was called the "DirectXbox." Almost identical SDKs. The 360 currently runs a modified DX9.

  Isn't it also more time consuming and costly to develop for the PS3? (it's a question, not a statement)

  I remember an interview with the guys at Harmonix (Rock Band) saying how involved Microsoft are in helping them with the development, going as far as patching the Dashboard to implement a new features they needed for Rock Band. They even went as far as saying the Techs at Microsoft were almost part of the team there. Accessible platform and great support. You really can't ask for more.
