Then he tripped out of the lifeboat, tripped into a taxi, then tripped into a nice hotel...

You know they're gonna make a movie about this and Will Ferrell will play him.

"Tripped onto a lifeboat." That is a good one. It's kind of like explaining to a girl, "Sorry, it just slipped in."

No. Billy Bob Thornton. It'll be called "Bad Captain."

He tripped into the life boat because he was running fast to get into it!

This captain is a real assh**e. There was a printout of the conversation he had with the Italian Coastguard and he's really foolish. Just read it somewhere in Google. No wonder he was charged. So obvious.

Thank goodness there's no lifeboats in prison to trip over.

This Captain is the very definition of a coward. It reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George pushes the women and children out of his way to get out of the house on fire. Pretty much exactly what this guy did, abandoned everyone to get himself to safety.

I do not think you have to go down with the ship, you just have to ensure that everyone gets off safely. The captain is the ultimate authority on the ship and is responsible for everyone aboard.

In regards to it being a sinking ship -- the guy could've stayed on the ship the entire time and survived since it didn't really sink.

Still, I probably would've done the same thing if it was truly sinking, and then dealt with the fallout later. Unfortunately, he will be charged with manslaughter since his actions were directly responsible for those deaths, so he can't just move away and grow a beard.

Would I be a coward? Sure. Better to be a living coward than a dead hero, especially when your heroism would soon be forgotten anyway.

I loved his excuse for not getting back on the boat. He was busy talking to his momma on his cell phone. What a loser.

In before some enterprising rap/trance/progressive music artist makes an entrancing song using samples out of the captain's and coast guard's dialog.

Someone is going to do it, I know.

The captain was one of the only people on board who actually knew what was going on. He was in charge of steering the ship close to shore, so it stands to reason he probably knew the ship couldn't possibly fully sink in the shallow water it was in. That, combined with the fact that the captain is responsible for the people on board his ship is what makes his actions so reprehensible.

There it is at the end.
