I trace it back to the robot startup sequence voice of MechWarrior 2. It's the reason why I still prefer a female voice for my GPS receiver. "Planet, Baker III, ambient temperature, negative 3 4 point 5 4 degrees. Local time is 11, 43, 43, GST. All systems nominal. "
