I still don't see why we couldn't have the new features on top of the old ones.
I've seen it said that Facebook was able to make changes, people complained and went along with it anyway. But there is a fundamental difference. Facebook kept the same basic functionality that people liked and were used to having.
Digg didn't do that. They completely eliminated several features that defined the brand; This is no longer Digg without them.
Digg had the Recommendation Engine. It became "My News", except for one major flaw: It eliminated upcoming stories, which eliminated NEW content. How can you be in the loop of new information when things you see are already old and dugg up? How many diggers complained about duplicates, that they already saw something? That was common!
Articles that appear on the front page were cool because chances were you are seeing something that is only a few hours old. Digg users like being in the know and approving or disproving what is newsworthy. The goal should have been to make that more democratic and fair, eliminating gaming of it. Not eliminating it altogether. My News could have been complimentary to that.
Digg has made a big mistake. Also, the commenting system was not broken and didn't need fixing.
I just stop by a few times per day to digg up stories about changing back to the old version before it was ruined and dismantled. I'm over a reddit if anyone needs me. Just under a different nom de plume.
I'll come back when this site is functional again.
If these changes had been incremental, introduced one at a time, each change could have been fixed and tweaked individually. But for the genius' at digg to assume that an entire site overhaul would not only be seamless (despite v4 being in beta for MONTHS), but to also assume that us diggers would embrace said changes with open arms is arrogant, presumptuous and ignorant.
This change-over has been a complete failure at every level. Especially when the changes we were actually asking for were completely ignored and instead we were given a smack in the face and a spit in the eye instead.
Digg has been rendered useless, generic, homogeneous, broken and dead.
I invite anyone who reads this to not digg any stories, leave no comment that isn't a protest and to click "Hide Story" for every submission that isn't protest/revolt related.
And Kevin, if you happen to stumble upon this single, humble comment...all that sleep you must be losing, all that stress you're experiencing, all the hate you're receiving...is completely warranted.
You f**ked up.
Bad.
We all make mistakes. We rarely have the opportunity to redeem ourselves for those mistakes. But this time you do.
Don't waste that opportunity.
Usually I can adjust to the Digg layout changes... but they have gone too far this time with no Upcoming, deleting my Favorites, and giving more power to MrBabyMan. f**k this s**t.
It's funny, at the time of this writing Kevin Rose has dugg every item on the front page except this story. This one seems to have escaped his gaze. Come on Kevin, don't you to agree?

I'm not going to bitch about Digg or the new changes. Whatever....it's free. All I can say is that the time I spend here has severely decreased.
