We get the unions and government we deserve. They are as good or evil as the active membership makes them. The hard part for the membership is to not become to comfortable and apathetic thus letting them do as they please.

Boy, Unions were stupid even then.

I imagine the movie and recording industry jobs created in just the first few years of "talkies" dwarfed the total population of theater organists in the entire United States.

If this happened today, politicians would have jumped in with regulations to insure a a "phased in approach" with some bogus job training program. Probably would teach them all how to be Lamplighters or make Buggy Whips.
