Android UI still performs choppy even with its 1 ghz processor. They should adopt a GPU accelerated UI like iOS. It's no wonder older iPhones seem smoother than new Android handsets. Also, they should increase pixel density. Seems like Android handset manufacturer's answer to increase resolution is just to increase the size. After a while, it gets unwieldy like a mini tablet rather than something pocketable.
Especially considering of the 5 metrics in the article, the Samsung beats the iPhone on 2, the iPhone wins on 2 others, and they are equally bad at colour accuracy (although in opposite directions).
If you actually look at the full article, iPhone doesn't exactly walk away a peerless champion either, there are several other metrics that the iPhone doesn't do so well at. For example, I found it interesting that while the iPhone is using .42 watts for a full white screen, its also using just at much juice for a full black screen; whereas the Samsung and Google phones use no power whatsoever.
Basically, as you said, personal preference. Overall it's pretty much a dead heat.
The article the iPhone won in 14 other metrics, we just don't get to see them. However, the importance of each metric can only be decided by the end user, and color saturation is usually pretty high on the list. For me however, 24bit color makes up for any amount of saturation.
Did you know LG manufactured iPhone 4's screen? In case you don't know LG is a Korean electronics manufacturer. Oh, and the world mobile phone market share is as follows: Nokia (Finland, 40%), Samsung (S. Korea, 20%), LG (S. Korea, 10%), Motorola (U.S, 6%), Sony Ericsson (Japan, 6%), RIM (Canada, 3%), Apple (U.S, 2%), Other (12%). Yeah...so it's 36% market share versus 8%. U.S product is definitely better!
you're mistaken: OLED (in this case Samsung's AMOLED) are more power efficient due to the pixels emitting their own light, hence no need for a constantly "ON" back-light behind the LCD screen ("on" even when BLACK is displayed on LCD's).
AMOLED displays consume about 1/3 less power than LCD's, while having greater contrast, although some have over-saturated colors. overall, power efficiency means better battery life, contrast means visibility and most people don't know what "correct" colours are anyway. seriously, who knows what colours are off on our emails and webpages, photos?
Actually AMOLED displays are notorious for their poor performance in sunlight in comparison to LCD. This has been one of the many complaints of Android handsets that utilize AMOLED screens. Do a little research and you'll find little substance to your bias banter...

I'm still happy with the display quality of my Samsung phone. Like anything else, just a matter of preference.

GPU UI acceleration will be in Android 3.0 Gingerbread and 3.0 will also add in higher resolution support.

This was known since before the Galaxy S came out.
Dropped my launch day iPhone 3G for a launch day Captivate, couldn't be happier :)
