$36 fee to take a SIM card out of the old phone and stick it into the new phone? Seriously! This is one of the reasons I buy unlocked phones. I can change a SIM card just fine. LoL! ATT is the evil spawn of Satin.
It really is a bulls**t cost even though all of them do it. Really does suck when you come in with a 4 line upgrade because that s**t ads up.
I used to be with ATT and left because all the nickle and diming. I'm with verizon now which does the same thing but at least my phones work indoors much better and I haven't had a dropped call since.
perhaps you missed the fact that most of the competition does the same thing? all cell phone companies suck, its just a question of which one sucks the least
Most in the US pay more than that. They are actually talking about a one time upgrade fee in addition to the monthly fee of about $70 for the cheapest plan (450 minutes plus 300MB monthly data plus tax) . Its already highway robbery which is why people are complaining.
The worst in all of this "data limit" nonsense is that the transfer of data is actually VERY cheap. I wrote a research paper on it and actually there have been quite a few studies conducted on this topic.
The reason why AT&T and other such companies are starting to place these data limits is because they realize that the internet and its part in our lives is expanding exponentially. Once these data limits are imposed no matter what future innovation or technology becomes available, AT&T will rake in the profits from all our usage.
That's kind of one sided, none of them really suck. They do seem to charge higher fees based on coverage though. The more coverage and larger a network the carrier has, the more they charge for service. Hence why regional carriers like metropcs, criket, and even prepair MVNO's like virgin mobile and page plus, all cost less, but also offer less coverage, and slower data speeds, and in the case of page plus, less data.
Most of them do overcharge though, at least compared to comparable rates in other nations.
I pay $30 month for month to month no contract and have done this for years, just my way of fighting back after looking at my bill $25 + tax+fees+fees+fees.wifi everywhere so i use google voice.only a sorry fool would pay for a contract phone.
I would love to respond to this, but according to AT&T I'm in the "Top 5% of Data Users" (3 months in a row now) and I risk my data being throttled back to 2G (Edge) speeds again this month.. Pwned...

Well I guess I'm never buying a phone from them ever again. Once my contract is up, I'm done with AT&T.

Not only should this company be split - they should split Verizon as well to create more competition. Watch that $36 fee suddenly disappear.
stonewall123Feb 13, 2012Buried
Youch. that does suck.
scottmarkleFeb 13, 2012Buried
I always ask for this fee to be waived and they always do....

I just dumped AT&T 2 months ago and I am so glad I did. They totally suck.

Heres one such study.

70 dollars for only phone service cheapest plan, 100 minutes no data. 45 dollars for 1 GB of data.
