I suspect the author of this article is going to be sued by Monster Cable. Not only does he use their name in his article without permission, he also points out that their product is an over-priced sham. Oh crap - now I'm going to be named in the suit as well!
This is one reason I boycott and really dislike BestBuy - f**king scammers talk these cables up like they're amazing and you're an idiot for not buying a $100 POS cable.
Go buy the same thing, although not as "pretty", from Amazon for $2.26
Reminds me of the 'coat-hanger' test where they checked signal quality and strength in audio cables- MonsterCable vs. a coat hanger.
Result: There was zero discernible difference between the two, other than the looks. f**k Monstercable, f**k Best Buy, and shame on all the people that buy that stuff and keeping that sham industry alive.
OP is referring to Monster's habit of suing people who use the word 'Monster' in their product, despite having nothing to do with any of the areas in which Monster has interests, such as a mini-golf company.
Cables per se are the best money maker this side of controlled substances. Margins usually are in the 1000% range and can be even higher for cables with proprietary connectors.
I was shopping for HDMI cables the other day because I needed two that were at least 15 ft long... and so I headed downtown to some independent electronic stores and found some 25 ft cables for 20$ ea. Nevertheless, I decided to shop around to see if I couldn't find any better deals and walked to a nearby Radioshack that was selling 15 ft cables for 169$. When I asked a salesmen what the difference was between his cables and the ones I found literally a block away (already knowing there was none), he grinned and told me that his were sold with a smile and that their store had nicer carpet. We both had a laugh about it, after which I returned to the other store to buy the 20$ cables. It was pretty surreal.
"All of the other new HDMI 1.4 features will be compatible with the existing categories of cables."
That is from HDMI themselves. There is NO SUCH THING AS AN HDMI 1.4 CABLE! There are only standard speed and high speed HDMI cables. That's it. So paying a $100-200 premium on "gold plated" crap is more than a huge rip off, it's a scam, and dishonest marketing.
The only exception to this is ethernet over HDMI, which does require a specific cable, but that is only for the ethernet capabilities. Everything else is either standard or high speed, and will work with the cables you have now.
Absolute guarantee that this cable cost the manufacturer no more than $25 to produce. It's industry standard stranded category 6 cable with RJ-45 ends on it. Maybe costs about 60 cents a foot. They put a nice braided covering on it that was probably a few bucks to design and produce and the cable ends look pretty fancy...maybe a buck or two a piece.
All for absolutely nothing. I guarantee this stuff performs absolutely no better than a 5 dollar cable from radio shack.

It's perfectly legal to say it if it's true, which it is.

still, you buy a high speed HDMI from a generic no big name compagny cable from amazon, not a 20$/feet HDMI monster cable at BB!

One rule I learned from taking journalism - "Truth is your best defense". If it's true then it isn't libelous, no matter how harsh it is.
