FTA:
"Last week's overvalued IPO, and the fact that Zuck owns more than a quarter of the world's largest social network and refuses to share the cash has put many users over the edge. "
simple solution, stop being so greedy. he earned that money and he doesn't have to give it to anyone. fortunately the article doesn't continue going on about this culture of entitlement, but unfortunately there isn't anything interesting or substantial in the article either.
This does seem to be on the verge of being a joke, or at least some guerilla marketing for tee shirts. Obviously, Facebook doesn't owe its users anything and they have every right to go public. The will get as much money as the market will pay.
If that's the case then I want every company to give me a partial refund on everything I buy because they made that money off of me. I also want money from every TV channel because they make money on ads directed at ME!!!!! My money too!!!!!
I was very tempted to not tell people I'm being sarcastic just to see how far my buries would go.
People amaze me sometimes. Why should he share the money with users? They aren't employees nor are they changed to use the service. If they don't like it they can always go off and find the next great social networking site.
wow i am sad and ashamed of my generation. quiting facebook is now called being a rebel. Che Guevara must be rolling in his grave. now go post an image okn your wall to protest cause thats what we do nowadays
Yeah , i think the music industry owes the world some favors for selling us s**tty ass CD's that get scratched and skip in a heartbeat! At least the people who made 8-tracks covered the tape from getting destroyed, dumbasses couldn't make a plastic sheath to cover CD's to keep them from getting f**ked up. How many times have i had to buy music that i had already bought numerous times before, but because it was on a CD it got scratched and is now worthless! Maybe thats why people download now, because the music industry banked off the world because they didn't make CD's as tough or as sturdy as 8- tracks and cassettes! Thanks f**king music industry you brought it on yourselves too!
And you got dug down. This sense of entitlement is a large part of the reason we're in the mess we're in now. Unions, mortgage crisis, high taxes, crushing debt...
It's that Facebook hands pervs and criminals people's personal info on a silver platter. Weather or not you make your info "private" in your user control settings is irrelevant, the info is there, and it's accessible because Facebook stores it indefinately.
"If they don't like it they can always go off and find the next great social networking site."
then facebook would have no money. facebook sells user data, users provide user data.
so to answer your query "Why should he share the money with users?"
to keep users on facebook- and in the process keep making obscene abounts of money
do do head, norm was looking for reasons as to why a company like facebook would pay its users. does facebook have to pay its users to keep them? probably not. should they be obligated to? no. do they have reason to be concerned with user retention? yes.
And yes lots of people use facebook and dont need to be paid to do so. but what you are clearly missing is that this IPO puts into real numbers exactly how valuable this information is to other businesses. this value comes from users sharing their information.
should =/= need. Facebook never needs to pay their users, but you better believe that things are going to get competitive when it comes to building social networks for profit. paying users is one way to stay competitive.

It was time to quit Facebook years ago.
I left it once the policies started getting ridiculous and it became a tool for stalkers and sociopaths.
