Are you kidding me? First of all, Apple did not invent the mp3 player (a German company did that and now they're rich as s**t), they didn't invent mp3s, they didn't invent anything except maybe if you want to include "innovation," the scroll wheel. They just made an mp3 player that wasn't s**tty, that' all. 123bucklemyshoe, you don't know anything.
And who did Creative "steal" it from?Creative squandered their chance to own the market, that's for sure. Their idiotic designs (and arrogant refusal to change them) doomed them.
REALITY: It's not MP3 that's the problem; it's the source material. The record companies have destroyed every popular-music recording since the mid-'90s with dynamic (not data) compression, to make them sound "louder". And they're going back and destroying their entire back catalogs too, with "remastering".Not only does this ruin everyone's enjoyment of music by making it a fatiguing wall of noise, but it makes the music unmixable for DJs, hard to have on in the background while you're talking, and defeats the way compression algorithms work. MP3, AAC, and similar codecs compress by devoting fewer bits to sounds that are masked by louder sounds. When music is crushed into a wall of noise, where everything is full volume every millisecond, these codecs can't work effectively.Either way, the result sounds like s**t, and there's no reason to buy good equipment unless you own a lot of music from before the late '90s.
As a musician, a sound engineer, and a producer, I must say: you are an idiot. There is no conspiracy going on in music. Only s**tty music is over-compressed at mastering (see Metallica's new album), so nothing of value is lost. You just said modern mastering is worse for music than the MP3 explosion??? Go die in a fire.
The important thing of a music player is freaking gapless playback? You've got to be s**tting me. You need to have better things to complain about like user interface, sound quality, screen quality and battery life if you're going to trash it. Oh wait, it kicks ass in all those categories.
@Wrangler76: Whatever. Say whatever you want to justify your purchase. I already stated what makes the X series a thumbs down. Come ZuneHD, and Sony themselves doing Android, your lovely X Walkman will be on clearance sale. The only thing it kicks is the fanboys asses.
not offended, clearly someone named ifallen is a total fag so its all good. uber original is an oxymoron because people have stopped saying "uber" for about 10 years know,

Actually Creative showed Apple how to steal a proper mp3 player design.and then eventually pour it down the masses' throats.
