People will worship and promote whomever they choose
Attempting to silence them will do much more harm than good.
The best approach in my opinion is to simply give them enough rope to hang themselves --- which they will do.
When Tebow prays on the field and then proceeds to throw 4 interceptions --- it's hard to imagine a more powerful anti-religious demonstration. The message this sends to all the kids watching --- praying in public just makes you look like a fool.

But by intentionally making a public display of his faith, he has unintentionally become yet another example of just how ineffective faith can be.
But keep the faith if it makes you happy --- as long as you don't try to push it on others.
