then over 50% of Americans don't have a job according to your definition.
A job is something you work at that pays you to do something. Simple as that. Just because the income isn't enough to support a family and a lifestyle doesn't disqualify it from being a job.
I was unemployed for a year after I was laid off. I searched high and low, but I did eventually find a job.
Also, Burger King is not a job for an adult. I collected unemployment while I searched for a job. If I would up getting so desperate I had to work in fast food I would not be able to pay rent.
In my opinion a real man will do what it takes to support his family. Whether it be digging a ditch for half of what you made or scrubbing toilets for 12 hours a day. You man up and do it.
Dammit, I'm so sick of people playing the f**king blame game with this issue. It's an issue for EVERY American that isn't well-off, which I would hazard to say is a majority.
Very, very, VERY few politicians are on the side of the average American, regardless of party affiliation. The only things in their vision are the next election, money, control and popularity. That's IT.
This government isn't by the people, nor for the people anymore.
A 'job' is something you can pay rent, car note, insurance, medical insurance, cell phone, internet, school lunches, and more with. Just so we're on the same page... If you've recently become employed and the first thing you do is worry about how your paycheck is going to cover even half those things, it's not a 'job'.
Agreed with blackjack, a job is a job regarless of what kind of lifestyle it affords you. Just because you define a 'job' by being able to satisfy all those needs doesn't mean someone else should live by those definitions. Several people can live without a cell phone and internet. Tons of people live without medical insurance. That's besides the fact. A job in the strict definition is better than nothing. You can name all that you want but a job that only pays half of that... is better than nothing. Whats the alternative? Hope the government pays for all of it for you?
Burger King and McDonalds don't hire over qualified people, they usually hire people that won't easily get bored and quit, but people that need the job.
"A real man wouldn't tolerate such subjugation. A real man would stand up to the oppressors by reaching out to the other humans that they live near and become friends with them."
i'm almost at a loss for words.....are you friggin serious?, did you just like step out from the sixties or something?
A real man does what he needs to do to take care of his family, a real man dosn't walk around looking to blame.
No, it didn't. Walmart destroyed countless towns all across the US, ruining local economies with cheap Chinese made garbage.
Economies are produced by actually producing something, so how is the production of stuff elsewhere helping our economy? It doesn't, and you can see it ever-so-simply by just looking at our economy right this very moment.
It is right outside your door, and still you do not see it. You can wake up any time that you like, but it is OK if you prefer to sleep.
While I'm at it let me get a a 3rd and 4th job, you seem to think its so easy to work an additional 20-30 hours and raise a family because 'thats what you have to do'.... Or I can move the fam into a 1 bedroom because the two bedroom costs too much. Altering a life style to allow you live within your means is only reasonable to an extent. I think it's very arrogant of you to think that a person alive today should cut off phone/internet communication, trade in their car, and move to a cheaper home... Just so burger king can pay them minimum wage as opposed to a living wage... And tell them to be happy they have a 'job'... or two... THAT'S sick.

Yes, I am serious and it IS that simple.
To better understand yourself, try understanding why you are hating on me for my suggestion of Love?
Love always feeds a country. When the Love slows, people start starving. What do you think is happening right now?

WHAT?! Civility on Digg?
I will NOT HAVE IT. Someone call somebody else a f**ktard, RIGHT NOW!

So do I, after almost 2.5 years of not.
direangelJun 29, 2011Buried
I can't agree with this.
I've been homeless and unemployed and work such as this does not constitute a job.
Arguing about the syntax or nomenclature is just deciding to buy into the broken system.
No, if you can't sustain basic survival (let alone thriving) off your employer then it's not a job.
Wax about definitions all you like, but you are missing the point entirely.
Argue for your limitations.
