I don't really care what you believe. Trying to claim that he's not a catholic because he's not a blind devotee who shares 100% of your narrow views is arrogant and ignorant.
98 percent of Catholic women use birth control and half of them are divorced (also against the church's doctrine). So much for being "good Catholics".
I've had quite a few Catholics tell me they don't agree with a lot of the Catholic church's rules. What, then, is the point of attending and financially supporting the church?
Well, I guess someone's gotta pay for the Vatican's lawyers and for all the settlements for abuse victims.
Nice to know Catholic Priests have morals.Especially when they are buggering little boys. Morals my ass!
The Roman Catholic Church has a Nazi who protects pedafiles as its leader. f**k the Pope.
The Catholic Church's stance on the death penalty certainly has evolved quite a bit over the centuries. Is that not a moral issue?
The Catholic Church's on evolution and the origin of species has also changed quite a bit. Is that not an issue of faith for those who hold scripture as infallible?
Actually... The Catholic Church (Vatican to be more precise) has changed their stance that the souls on dead unbaptized babies are no longer stuck in limbo (which was causing much distress with the parents of said dead baby) but now reside in heaven with god. All with the stroke of a pen no less!
And the Pope is [slowly] changing his stance on letting Catholic Africans use condoms in order to stop the spread of AIDS
Other reversals include:
-Bible written and spoken in Latin (1962)
-Capital Punishment (1995)
-Slavery (1860)
-Apologizing for incarcerating Copernicus (1995)
He is wrong but only by a little bit. The correct statement, which comes from the CDC, is that 98% of catholic women, who are or have been, sexually active, have used birth control at some point in their lives. It also specifies that by "birth control" they don't include withdrawal or the rhythm method.
The first one says mother jones but it links to the CDC PDF.
Are you trying to convince me that the catholic church is even more reprehensible than I thought?
There is an enormous amount of dickishness in the church's history, opinions, actions, and behaviors. There is a ton of crap that the church does today that's pretty awful. And now you are saying that after everything the church isn't even sorry about all that crap? And doesn't admit that it has done wrong?
Like Copernicus & Galileo, the father of correct astronomy and astrophysics.
Oh, and all of those people burned at the stake during the Catholic's "Inquisitions" in Europe, which incidentally made the church kinda wealthy since they seized those murder victims' property.
Oh, well, it's not like they turned around and built a whole CITY with the profits from whole sale murder/robbery. [Vat? I can' hear you!!]
So yes, Jesus would have been burning people at the stake for being Jews and whatnot, otherwise -- he would have been a heretic. And a hypocrite!
Wait, what is the difference again between paradox, irony, and cognitive dissonance?
Glad you spoke up to see that the teachings of Jesus Christ are not contorted into something "heretical". Which comedians do; not the professional ones generally -- but they might.
That's why the Taliban banned them and all other forms of entertainment. One of them might slyly make a subtly implicit heretical comment because those guys are so sly!
If parents taught their children to to stand up against their religious teachers in the right way and the right time and for the right reason, there would not be so many families that were sore for money in arrears, begging their clergy to confess in court to sinning against innocent boys, stirring up the need for a lot of money changing to take place in the church, with the help of the US court system.
Now, in this video we find that 62% of the Catholic churches' revenue comes from the US government. I don't see why we should have to find these kinds of religious affairs. Certainly not fund them.
Apparently, it is as hard to separate the church from the state as it is men from boys when the church wishes it really, really badly.
But...
The founding fathers wanted them separated.
That's not heresy.
That's just getting a priest off someone's back before they hurt them. Or making sure there is no theft of services, if it's too late to prevent the hurting.
A friend of mine. A very committed Catholic who has been through hell and back HATED the local Catholic Church he was going to. He disliked the priest, the parishioners, the messages each Sunday and where the Church committed its resources. It was a struggle every Sunday to go, but because he was committed he felt it was his duty to continue to go, and more importantly, be an agent of change. Now he's a Deacon and a leader in that Church. He has helped the Church become less dogmatic and more welcoming to young people and families.
The person who I know who has done the most for the Catholic Church would have been kicked out according to your strict guidelines, and the Church would have been worse off for it.
its mass delusion. Its scary when you realize we are stuck on a planet wth so many people who believe fairy tales made up thousands of years ago are the word of the creator of the universe.

Religious folks are all up in arms about having to pay for birth control for their employees. Stephen Colbert calls this "C*ck blocking the Almighty!"
Where were these folks when their insurance had to pay for boner pills?
This just in, ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION is God "C*ck Blocking Thee!"

Then you would argue that the 98% of Catholics who use birth control are not really Catholics?
If true, Roman Catholicism would be one of the smallest sects of Christianity.

But our apologist friend geogeer is making no such distinction. He calls it "a disgrace" that Colbert "has the gall to refer to himself as Catholic".
