You can thank DuPont and William Randolph Hearst for making marijuana (and by extension, hemp) illegal. Hemp cut into their businesses (petrochemical and logging/paper manufacturing), so they used their money and influence to quietly write laws banning it.

I suffer from both acute anxiety and depression and am a regular user. I've felt anxious while high (but then again, who doesn't from time to time) but I always feel better afterwards and for the next few days even. I've had bad experiences with prescribed medication; its a shame I have to illegally self-medicate :/

Damn, when is pot going to be a schedule 2 drug? We need to do real research on the effects of the drug. There are tons of other plants that we investigate the medicinal qualities of, why not marijuana?

Remember, you heard it here first, folks: a peer-reviewed article in the Journal of Psychopharmacology is "more pseudo-science from the potheads"...

Um, jaketyson85? You might want to reassess the location of dumbness, there, chum.

In this day and age, increased paranoia is a good thing.

Marijuana has a million valid uses in pharmacology...in addition to being food/fuel/fiber. That said, with all of those uses, the claims in the title are the ones I can verify through half a lifetime of experience. If anyone suffers from anxiety or depression, consider giving marijuana a chance before you are in some kind of Xanax/Zoloft haze.

Maybe you are unfamiliar with the meaning of "first hand knowledge". See...many people above and below you in this thread have given/are giving real world/first person accounts of their experiences. It may seem...I dont know..CONDESCENDING to discount that (and the science of the article) by suggesting something you read once on the google tubes.
