Conservatives are intolerant of things, ideas, and people that are different from them. Plus, they've always used scapegoating and fear to push their ideas.
Go-Go-Gadget "supergay superiority sneeze": {sonic Ah chOO}; oh dear you better sanitize the screen! before flamboyance take hold! like all gay pride parade & such shortly after. sorries ;)
a modern civilization does not discriminate nor treat other beings as anything less than equal.
I think that might of had something to do with blatant sexual harassment in the workplace... but the fact that the Republican party has closeted or self loathing gay people as members does not in itself make them tolerant.
They're socially conservative Democrats? They certainly don't represent the typical Democrat demographic.
You do have a point. Homophobia isn't really a political thing. Then again, the article didn't refer to the Republican party at all. It focused solely on social conservatives.
Too true. Conservatives/Religious wingnuts are afraid of:
LIFE (they live in constant FEAR of God/Jesus/Whatever constantly watching them and keeping score)
DEATH (they FEAR not knowing what happens after death, so they wrap themselves in a security blanket they have called 'heaven')
CHANGE (they FEAR change even though it is a part of every day life. They have proven in the past to be afraid of changes like: end slavery, letting women decide their destinies, mixed relationships, and now - gay marriage)
PROGRESS (they FEAR progress because they start to realize that maybe their god is not all that powerful - or if he even exists at all. They were so used to "the sky's [heaven] the limit" until man landed on the moon. And now, in their eyes, science is literally playing god with stem-cell research)
I went to the gay pride parade one year. I had to take a very hot shower afterward to wash teh gays away. So, I might be OK except some mornings I find myself putting on boxer shorts instead of panties. What to do?! OMFG! I'm skeered!

Because many of them are self-hating and gay (as evidenced by how many are caught in restrooms and Craigslist).
And of course, there's Alanocu.

Conservatives are defined by hate.
They hate gays --- even though gays have never harmed them in any way.
They hate government intrusion ---- unless it is intruding into someone's bedroom.
They hate deficit spending --- unless a "conservative" is promoting it.
They hate science and logic --- but they run to the doctor for a scientific remedy any time they get sick.
They hate liberals --- i.e. anyone who disagrees with their hatred.
Hate is a disease that you can't reason or compromise with --- and conservatives have a bad case of it.

its hard to remain civilized when faced with discrimination and blind hate.
honestly, so far, these comments are very mild considering what they are actually about.
austinjameshereSep 30, 2011Buried
Being intolerant of intolerance is not uncivil... it's common sense.
Having positions that treat homosexuals separate and unequal is uncivil though.
