Who'd have thought? At least with info like this you can regulate what you eat at home. It's restaurants, fast-food or otherwise that are the real problem: you never know what you're getting. I never eat butter, but in restaurants they slather everything with it, and I feel really crummy afterwards.
Bread is a problem, because it has about 1-2x as much salt as the number of calories. So a 2000 calorie diet of only break could easily be 4000mg of sodium a day, and that's without any butter or anything. Clearly even simple bread from a grocery store is more unhealthy than the average american diet which only has 3300mg of sodium a day.
I have a handful of friends who are gluten-free, who don't eat bread - it takes a lot of getting used to. No bread, no pizza, no pasta. That's practically all we eat - LOL!!
I still have not seen a compelling reason for being concerned about "sodium" or "salt" in my diet. There is only a weak link between it and hypertension.

When you make it yourself, you can use much less salt. Check for Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day
