Patriots played awful. They deserved that loss.

Both hands on a ball thrown 3 feet over his head and behind him. It was a decent effort on a terribly thrown ball. Sure it may have been "catchable", but looking at how open he was there was no reason to put the ball where Brady did.

Yeah I have to agree that Brady shares a lot of the blame for the missed catches. If you look at how quickly and precisely Eli was able to deliver the ball to his receivers, it makes Brady look old, slow, and inaccurate in comparison.

I was gonna say. They person who I saw screw things up was Brady. He got a penalty on the first play of the game for crap's sake.

I can't believe they called a pass play on the 5 yard line. Who does that?

Just like in 2008, it came down to a few of our players not catching the ball at crucial moments during the game. The Patriot's defense did it's job, holding the Giants to 21 points -- heck 15 points late into the fourth quarter -- but three receivers fell apart in the fourth quarter.

And, Wes Welker missing that catch -- both hands on the ball -- on the Giant's 25 yard line with four minutes left in the game put the lid on the casket.

The Patriots will be back next year, better than ever.

Better than ever, eh? Like how they rebounded in '09 by getting their asses handed to them by the Ravens in the first round of the playoffs?

Yeah. That's irony.

yup. i'd like to dump ocho for either megatron or alshon jeffry in the draft. i think arrington stays due to his 7 picks but inhegibo is a goner along w/ guton and maybe anderson. expect a new defensive lineup.

They didn't pick up Ihegibo because he was a valuable draft pick, or has a multi-trillion dollar contract. He was picked up, because there weren't better players available for his position. Its rare to put in 6 new defenders and magically become dominant.

Its part of the reason the Patriots haven't won an SB since 2005. Management may be good at finding good people, but they can't pickup franchise superstars through the draft. They just keep winning too much every year. They end up with a team of above average function, but not enough superlative personnel to get them to a SuperBowl victory. In other words, they need more superlative talent. Yeah, there's free agency, but truly superlative talent will always be outbidded.

Why do you think Belichek doesn't get raves for being a defensive genius anymore? He can't do special, unexpected things with his personnel if they are mediocrities, and he has to make schemes to hide personnel weaknesses. Basically, somehow with the team's annual 26-31st pick, he can't find a pass rusher to disrupt other teams offenses. He can only get "over-the-hill" Junior Seaus. Even when the Patriots get the inevitable subpar season, they'll have to trade down their high pick to fill all their "old" holes.

You want the Patriots to win SuperBowls again? Belichek and the GM (and Kraft) will have to find scouts that can find Pro Bowl players out of late round to undrafted picks. And then somehow quickly train them into Pro Bowl level play. This year was sad. Look like the Patriots were one superstar receiver away from winning this year's superbowl. (Then again, I certainly don't think the Giant's receiving corp was better; and the Giant's had an even worse running game than the Patriots.)

True, they're division rivals so it probably stung a little more. And there's always the year before their first SB loss, when they blew an 18 point lead and lost to the Colts in the AFC title game. I seem to recall some pretty sour faces in the post-game press conferences for that one too.

Its not just division rivals that made it stung. As Brady has pointed out previously, he HATES the Jets. Holds nothing but contempt for them, even during the previous seasons they were the only team in the division getting wins off them.

As I see it, the players on the Patriot teams that have actually won Superbowls can conceivably walk around like their s**t don't stink. But not any Patriots team after 2005.

But that's okay. The Patriot's contempt for their competitors (actually its their hubris) is what makes them choke in the playoffs and Superbowl. I was dumbfounded that they had the betting world fooled into favoring them over the Giants by 3 points. It should have been the other way around. And even though "Madden" isn't an exacting simulation, it bears out what every Patriot hater knew.

As irony would have it. THE GIANTS in the Playoffs vs the Falcons! "(Shotgun) E.Manning pass incomplete short right [J.Sanders]. PENALTY on NYG-E.Manning, Intentional Grounding, 13 yards, enforced in End Zone, SAFETY."

Agreed, I was indifferent about who won, but the Patriots 12 men on the field, giving away 2 points at the start, dropped balls, it wasn't really worth watching....players are supposed to take it to another level during the super bowl and the Patriots did not do that and I think the Giants just barely did that much better...it was bland.

how high are you? there isn't any way possible to trade for Calvin Johnson. To even suggest that is borderline insane.

My "prediction:" Roughly 50% of the people who predicted the winner of Super Bowl XLVI were correct and roughly 50% were incorrect.
