No Mortal Kombat? I remember when that game came out, there were freaken senate hearings, and people talking about it on the Sunday morning news talk shows because of the "massive amounts of blood and violence it was showing children".
The airport massacre in Modern Warfare 2. I read about it, but when I actually played it I was all "meh". I've killed way more innocent people in games
That's because there are a ton of people who still see video games as kids toys. They don't acknowledge the fact that there are not only adult gamers, but the average gamer is an adult.
I completely support ESRB ratings. Unfortunately, for them to work and achieve their intended purpose, parents have to be more involved than, "If I buy you a video game, will you shut the hell up so that I can get back to watching The Flavor of Love?"
I always appreciated that the "hot Coffee" mod was considered offensive in a game where killing innocent civilians, beating up hookers and stealing their money after services were rendered and straight up armed aggression in a city were considered stock game play.
Killing anyone and everyone in insanely violent manners? That's OK.
Pixelated Sex with no real nudity involved? Ban it!
the line "...and dialogue so cheesy that it contained three times the recommended allowance of vitamin A." is so cheesy that it contained three times the recommended allowance of vitamin A.

I hate when other unfunny authors try to copy Cracked's style of humour.

I'd say 7 of those games did not have a controversy. They completely neglected Mortal Kombat.

Agreed, but you mispelled "Kombat".
philipz78Aug 24, 2010Buried
Yeah, #1 should have been Mortal Combat. that's why we have the ESRB ratings today!
Unless the author didn't consider it overblown, but that's a weak argument.

Yeah, and Fox and Friends said it would turn "8 year olds into terrorists."

I can't believe anybody thought he would be a good presidential running mate. No wonder Bush got elected.

Seriously. I routinely drive down the sidewalk in GTA, the airport level was pretty tame.

I loved that game. The only way to beat it though was to write down all the times and rooms the ogs were in.
