Oh boy, what a one sided article. I wonder if the author even plays video games? Assassin’s Creed II is listed, but not Doom, Diablo II or Left 4 Dead? How does Fable even come close to comparing to a game like Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike:Source?

Any list of the 'most addictive games' that doesn't include Minecraft is bogus.

Any list of the 'most addictive games this generation' that is predominately games released within two years of the article's publish date is bogus.

Were there addictive games on that list? Sure. And a stopped clock is right twice a day.

This is stupid, its this guys opinion and that's it. I thought this was going to be based off played hours

This list pretty much sucks. Assassin's Creed 2 is addictive? I must have missed that. Mass Effect 2 = fun, but not addictive. Same goes for Halo Reach

Not so much as an honorable mention for Civ 4?

If not for mentioning WoW and StarCraft, this list would be a complete failure.

Uh.. yeah wow is more addicting than halo, are you joking? What makes games (longterm) addicting are those that go on forever and ever and you are rewarded with small rewards...
Mainly roll playing games. Roll playing games are so addicting because you feel like it is you playing the game.. and that you must finish it. You'll even be bored playing the game, but you still feel like you HAVE TO PLAY.

Those types of games are the addicting games.. Like wow, runescape.. They don't even have to be that fun, it's just that they draw you in, and have small rewards for your tedious hours of playing.

Games like halo, and mw2, sure they are fun, but I know very few people who are actually addicted to them. You can play it a lot, and then go do something else... you never feel like you need to play it like roll playing games.

Oh well that's my opinion at least.

Yeah, it seems like "addictive" would imply high replay value...

Not a great list and seems far too personalized. A few like WoW are universally considered addictive, but Assassins Creed 2 or GTA: Chinatown? No way. Though I guess it depends by addictive. Even if I play a game a lot in the first few days or week, if I then never touch it again, it's not addictive.

FIFA 11 should really just be "EA Sports game of choice." If you're not a soccer fan then the options of FIFA seem as interesting as Football Manager - which is to say not at all addictive.

And most of the honorable mentions are just past versions of the games that made the list, meaning there isn't even any redemption there either.

Anyone that thinks WoW is less addicting than Assassin’s Creed II, FIFA 11, or any of those games does not deserve a job in the gaming industry

Hope they didnt' write those in order of addictiveness...cause it would be wrong.

Seems like he prefers RPGs to FPS. Definitely is entirely based on his opinions, and not any sort of statistics or facts.

hm these games are addicting but the ranking is retarded. WoW for sure should be number 1 and then followed closely by starcraft 1/2 and then farmville probably (if we're including social games). WoW has created the largest online multiplayer known to man and has people getting kicked out of school, losing jobs and basically FREAKING OUT with this game. hell, one of my housemates in college almost got kicked out due to WoW and all their raiding BS. starcraft has professional leagues and training camps... enough said. Farmville has similar effects as WoW.

ME2 was a very good game yes but not the most addicting game ever. A lot of MMO's can easily knock that game out of the water. I couldnt even play through that game twice. this guy is out of his mind

1. WoW
2. Farmville
3. Angry Birds
4. MW2
5. Halo

WoW? definitely.
MW2? ehhh, it was a lot of fun for a while, but then it got really boring.

Is SC2 balanced yet? I have the game but it wasn't very balanced when I tried to play it the week it came out. Brood War still is amazing, but I thought SC2 needed a lot of improvement. Also, it might be my laptop overheating, but I find it hard to run on very low settings. (also, my native res is 1080p so... that might be it)

kwcarpenterNov 11, 2010Buried

Also, don't game on laptops.

kwcarpenterNov 11, 2010Buried

Yeah, I think the author is just basing what is most addictive on what has kept him playing the longest, which is a fair article for a "personal list", but not for a "most addictive".

This list is pretty terrible, well ME2 being on it period is pretty terrible. Its a GREAT game, but even with what, 3 and a half play throughs, which is what he said he did, there just isn't enough stuff to do in it to make it that addictive, especially not with the other games that could have been put in. And he WAY overstates the variability of the playthroughs. This guy is a ME2 Fanboy that just wanted to put it number 1. There is no question WoW belongs in the number 1 spot, and other posters are right, other games and older games should have been put in. Tetris probably deserves to be on the list, as well as possibly Dr. Mario. Farmville belongs, and probably games like Geometry Wars, and Bejeweled. Those are games that are addictive, games that people drone on playing all the time, and they don't really know why. A list that has things on it like ME2, and Assassins Creed is just poorly thought out. This is an example of someone just wanting to get a list published so that he could make it on to Digg
