So, IDK if people knew before watching the video but apparently the kids is a special needs kid. I'd call him a wuss if he wasn't but IDK now since it just seems mean to rob a special needs kid of a win like that.
The kid has a learning disability and has had problems interacting with other students. This picture contest was evidence of the progress he was making.
This news team is completely irresponsible for putting that on TV. The reporter could have done another interview when he was a little less emotional. The real story here is the callousness of the news team.
Everyone needs to look more in to this story. This wasn't just a kid who had big bad meanie government break his heart. The gang task force in Chicago has said that there are gang symbols in the picture. While it may have been unintentional, it's unlikely. Look up who this kid's dad is and...shock...he is a gang member that is wanted by the Police and by Interpol.
Given what the City has learned and from the advice of their gang experts, they decided to pull his picture. I don't envy the City Clerk who had to make that call. I'm sure it wasn't easy but the evidence is there and I support her decision.
The kid will still be getting the $1000 bond so he's not walking away empty handed.
There was another news story where it was pointed out that he copied the hands *exactly as they were* from the cover of a pamphlet his art teacher gave him. Apparently, any hand where the fingers are doing anything can be construed as a hand throwing a gang sign. This is ridiculous. There is no "evidence" supporting her decision, just a bunch of overzealous government officials who want to make it appear they're doing something about gangs.
I feel bad for the kid. If his dad is in prison, this may have been the highlight of his young life, and it was ruined by a bunch of empty-headed bureaucrats.
Looks like a pretty normal way to draw hands that have thrown a hat into the air. What kind of crappy gang hand signal would involve hands that aren't doing anything other just being held upward?
"Six pointed stars are out there if you look for them"
Has anyone here bothered to count the points on the city's flag?
I count four six pointed stars on the flag and the drawing. Maybe he was going to join the city hall gang.
His dad is not in prison. He's a wanted dangerous felon. Who happens to a a what? A gang member. The Gang Task Force said this was full of gang symbols. The kid has gang information on his FB page. Put the two together and you see the situation the City is in. The kid is keeping his $1000 so he should relax.
Justice Department says 75 gang with 100,000 members in Chicago, bound to be lots of subsets,so it would be tough not to draw somebodys' sign.If he wore camo would he be in the militia?Six pointed stars are out there if you look for them.At least one major religion says not to visit the sins of the father on the sons, but good prenatal care makes for healthier babies and sometimes people party too much and it affects their children.
And no fingers up (Fist) has associations, too. Can't win. What attire and colors should someone wear to avoid gang associations?Even plaid is nationalistic .

just redraw the hands, give the kids the grand and move on.

I thought the same thing at first -- but then again, I'd probably cry over being jerked out of grand nowadays too!

that "local gang" is the city of Chicago! I expect better comments than that Laura. If it was "Neven" id say it was typical ignorance.
Try this link from Google.

That TV station sucks to attach the story to that video.

Hands are f**king difficult to draw. Let me see you draw 5 fingers without them looking like "gang signs".

More political correctness run amok. Too bad the kid was at the latest focus of it.

noticed in the youtube comments, someone pointed out the row of 6 point stars are also from a local gang logo.
jrstinkfishFeb 11, 2012Buried
A local jewish gang? His stars are modeled after the Star of David. Come on people, don't be so sensitive.
