wtf? It's supposed to be terrible. If somebody told me this movie was good because it has good acting and a sensible plot they should be slapped.
This movie needs to be rated on the following factors:
-explosions: size and creative use of
-gun play
-amount of blood
-hotness of hot chick
-funniest post-mortem one-liners
I saw the movie at midnight and I can assure you, the audience was pleased by what they saw at the end of the movie. They came for an action movie filled with their favorite actions stars, and they received just that. To apply Oscar-style judgments on this movie is simply stupid.
It had blood, explosions, big guns and even a little bit of humor: the movie achieved what it was supposed to achieve.
Van Damme turned down the offer because he felt there was no substance to his character. Seagal didn't want to do it because he and one of the producers did not like each other.
f**k you "wendy hong", this movie kicked ass and is one of the greatest action movies ever made. Here's a tip: IF YOU DON'T LIKE OVER THE TOP ACTION MOVIES, DON'T WATCH OVER THE TOP ACTION MOVIES.
So for a 'real' review of a movie like this, here goes:
Explosions were huge, 80's style gas filled...not the CGI stuff you see today.
Martial arts was innovative, but not quite Tony Jaa level..however fresh well executed moves with a good mix of grappling and striking
Knives were plentiful and used effectively..not as good as Ong Bak 2, but better than say "The One"
Character mixture was well done, each got thier shining moments
Chicks were plenty hot, though a bit on the 'weak' side...they were say Robert Rodrigez or Joss Wheedon style. I feel they were underused, and expected much more skin
One liners werent' quite memorable. I was hoping for some Arnie style 'Consider it a divorce' type stuff.
Locations were dead on 80s...this could've been a 'rambo and friends' movie complete with machine gun towers, fortified villas, and tunnels. I felt like there was a level in Unreal Tournament that matched this.
Yep, that how I'd review the movie. Thats what I went in looking for, that's what I got. If you read a review talking about character building, story development, plots, romance, or whatever the hell else, you should save your money, go watch Eat Pray Love, and suck on yer bon bons. This movie is about testicular fortitude. Leave your purse at home.
^^ To all the comments above me, you have given put faith back in the digg community for me. I was afraid everyone would agree with the review, I mean who cares if it isn't some slumdog millionaire, deep, moving concept. It has all the action legends in one movie that is freaking badass i dont care who you are! I'm so pumped to see it haha
You know the difference between the simpler 80s action movies and today's obsession with drama and story complexity? The 80s films are more fun to watch.
While not the best film, I always thought Last Action Hero was a nice homage to 80s action flicks. It is more of a comedy/parody movie than an actual action movie, though.

Apparently the reviewer doesn't know what 80's action flickers were like... that or doesn't understand what 'homage' means

Curious what the pay cap was and why Jean-Claude Van Damme & Steven Seagal weren't included?
