Do you guys know if Megaupload was used as an example for what's to come? I was having a hard time really believing in the SOPA bill because piracy generates soooo much money for them. What if you run an MP3 blog and you offer free downloads but also get the industry a bunch of sales through referrals?

One can only ask whether they will go after each one of them in a disguise for the need of SOPA?

Have you ever thought about seeing a psychiatrist for your delusions?

Or finding the tallest object you can climb and jumping off it?

I believe it has more to do with this, but it could also be a signal of what's to come.

"UMG knows that we are going to compete with them via our own music venture called Megabox.com, a site that will soon allow artists to sell their creations directly to consumers while allowing artists to keep 90 percent of earnings," MegaUpload founder Kim 'Dotcom' Schmitz told Torrentfreak this week.

In other words, another entry into the very crowded DIY space. But there's a lot more to this story. Instead of charging artists, Schmitz wants to pay artists - even for free downloads. "We have a solution called the Megakey that will allow artists to earn income from users who download music for free," Dotcom outlined. "Yes that's right, we will pay artists even for free downloads. The Megakey business model has been tested with over a million users and it works."

Definitely, I know Dropbox at least has the option of sharing files. Google Docs as well. I'm (not) waiting for my Grooveshark subscription to be canceled indefinitely.

It seems this might have something to do with the shutdown.

Alternatives as in Netflix and Hulu? Personally I'm not buying into this "surge," literally. I don't want it to seem like a successful move by the DOJ.

Have you thought about building a panic room in your house? You might need one soon!

Are public cloud servers and competitors planning on launching a media platform that:

a. pays artists 90% of sales of their music?
b. pays artists even for free downloads of their music?

This is what separates MegaUpload from the rest, and why they were targeted for shutdown. The cronies in the Orwellian "justice" department are acting on behalf of the dinosaur media industry that is more and more irrelevant by the day. Unfortunately, they still have some cronies and power left.
