Bernanke is right. The labor market is still extremely weak.

And let the spin begin...

It has already begun the moment BLS started using more and more bizarre definitions of unemployment to give us these numbers in the first place. Granted, they do provide more information in their reports to qualify these claims but by using the term 'unemployment' in such a narrow and warped way, they are already guilty of significant bias.

"The people of the US need to relinquish the fragmented approaches of the Republican Party and become truly united in seeing this great nation continue to be an example of greatness to other nations"

Have you ever read Adam Smith? Do you realize why he started studying things that lead him to the creation of his theory of the "invisible hand"? He was a theologian who could not reconcile how when everyone did things according to their own greed, society as a whole seemed to be getting better.

The problem with "united" as you state it is that ultimately it comes down to a select few trying to make decisions on something that is so incredibly complex that ultimately they are just shots in the dark. For all the failings of the US economic system, its still the most dynamic in the world.

Yes, it's the most dynamic economy in the world and that's why there should be a clear understanding that there would not only be peaks in the economy but also valleys. When there are valleys, it would be better for people to pull together to repair or strengthen the weak areas in the economy. Remember, it's dynamic, that means that it is a 'changing economy, and I would go further to say, it's also a robust economy.

An underground economy is developing that likely will not go away... as we decend into a banana republic military police state for the protection fo the rich and powerful interests of society.

"A breakdown of the new Census numbers helps explain why the participation rate is even lower than previously estimated. About 1.29 million of the gain in the working-age population came from those 55 years and older, while another 521,000 were 16 to 24 year-olds, two groups that traditionally have lower participation rates. The count of those 25 to 54 years old, considered the prime employment years, dropped by 299,000."

If we can eventully reduce the number of available jobs to, say, a hundred-thousand, then the US can always be at full 100% employment...

If you CAN afford to retire, now is a good time. If for no other reason, just to do something different from what you're doing now.

More statistics of debatable truth being used to push an agenda - business as usual by the almighty Fed.

Another example of how people need to be cautious about how statistical numbers are presented.

Pff... Obama is the one who said 'numbers dont really matter', only trends.

What does this trend indicate, Mr President?

If the so-called "job creators" in the US truly lived up the their Gingrich descriptive, at the same time that they've been raking in higher profits that previous years, they would have also been investing in the United States. But, they are not, and they continue to push down upon the economy that is struggling to recover.
The people of the US need to awaken to the meaning of united. It means togetherness, moving in the same direction, support for a common purpose. The people of the US need to relinquish the fragmented approaches of the Republican Party and become truly united in seeing this great nation continue to be an example of greatness to other nations. The people of the US need to unite -- afterall, let the word "united" be experienced in the lives of the people and its government.
The US should be grateful for President Obama as its leader at this critical and challenging time.
