What I love about these government reactions to peaceful solutions to their nonsense is just how obvious an admission of failure they are. They are admitting that they have no solution, no value, nothing to offer people. All they have is threats.
I don't disagree with you, but checkpoints are used for a lot of other things besides getting drunk drivers off the road. The best way to do that is to pull over people who are driving recklessly - whatever they are doing is a danger to the public. Establishing a checkpoint, means the police can be lazy, pull over whoever they feel like, for whatever reason, and find reasons to harass them. Someone who isn't drunk, but has an open-container sitting in the back seat can get busted. There is a greater opportunity for racial profiling etc. Meanwhile, a seriously drunk guy is killing someone on another busy road.
I think that the article was specifically referring to DUI checkpoints. Whilst I don't agree with the censorship, I find the fact that people are tweeting this information very disturbing - only drunk drivers would be using it.
We are seeing growing pains. There is no way that governments can control everything - and they're not supposed to. They need to accept technology and social media and learn to adjust. It doesn't affect their job: which is to protect the rights and safety of the people. It just means they need to be transparent, not sneaky about it.

Why would anyone share checkpoint information with people? Do they want more drunk drivers? I am confused how it even got to this point...
